During the height of Covid, friends and fellow Little Rock musicians Zach Smith and Zach Carpenter decided to put together a band that did covers of punk tunes, just for fun. Thinking they would be little more than a garage band, maybe getting an opening gig here and there, they originally billed themselves as The Imposters (appropriate for a punk band that only played covers- "The Posers" name was already taken). As they started writing original songs and the band's popularity started to grow, Elvis Costello called and wanted his band's name back. Sticking with the spy theme they had developed, the name was changed to The Espionage Act. With Zach Smith on guitar and lead vocals, Zach Carpenter on bass, drummer Brandon Hall, and guitarist JC Huber, The Espionage Act is quickly gaining a reputation for their solid performances, recordings, and sound that has been described as similar to Green Day, Alkaline Trio, and Dillinger Four.
